The rest of us may be kicking up the air conditioner and heading to Indiana to buy fireworks, but University of Louisville women’s basketball head coach Jeff Walz may not have gotten the message that it’s summer. We headed over to UofL’s campus on Thursday afternoon and found the Louisville legend hard at work prepping both for the 2019-2020 season as well as the upcoming USA Basketball U19 schedule. There were even a few players stretched out on some couches at the Planet Fitness Keuber Center, all hard at work absorbing video and wisdom from associate coach Sam Purcell. Suffice to say, there is no real off-season for the Cardinals.
Our main purpose, however, was to sit down and talk to the boss about his strategies for promoting women’s basketball. Many of you may recall that yours truly (Roommate Tom) spent the past couple of years leading the Louisville Coopers in supporting Louisville City FC. Over that time I noticed a number of similarities in the manner I utilized for selling the game of soccer to non-soccer fans and the strategy Jeff Walz was using to promote UofL women’s basketball.
Coach was kind enough to spend some time chatting with us about that topic. Enjoy!
