Playing a crucial part in the road sweep of #2 NC State, third baseman Alex Binelas was rewarded with ACC Player of the Week honors. He is the second Cardinal this season to be awarded with ACC weekly honors (Reid Detmers), and is the first Cardinal since Logan Wyatt in March 2018 to be named ACC Player of the Week.

The freshman from Oak Creek, WS had one of the best weeks of his young baseball career, as he set a new career high in each of the three games of the NC State series. He collected 5 RBIs in game 1, 3 hits in game 2, and 2 doubles in game 3. In the series as a whole, he went 7-12 (.583) with a home run, 3 doubles, 3 walks and 5 RBIs. Including the midweek contest against Northern Kentucky, he went 8-15 (.533) with 4 doubles and 7 RBIs.

After starting the season only batting .105 (2-19) and only 2 RBIs in his first 10 games, his production at the plate has absolutely exploded. He is batting .357 (20-56) with 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 5 doubles in his last 16 games, bringing his batting average up to .293, good for sixth best on the team and third among freshman (Davis, Leonard). Binelas leads the team in home runs and slugging percentage with 5 and .560 respectively.

Alex Binelas and the rest of the Cardinal Nine are set to do battle again tomorrow for the road version of the Battle of the Bluegrass against the Kentucky Wildcats. First pitch is slated for 6:30pm.
