LOUISVILLE VS KENTUCKY

The first of many for the 2016, fans can gather at Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium to catch the Battle of the Bluegrass on the women’s soccer pitch this Friday at 7:30pm.

Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 17th season with the Cardinals. She has guided Louisville to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.
Louisville is off to a 3-0-1 start, marking the best start since 2012.

Entering his eighth season in 2016, UK head women’s soccer coach Jon Lipsitz has continued to develop the culture it takes to build a championship program from the ground up. Under Lipsitz the past two of the last three seasons, UK has finished the regular season in the top five of the SEC, and earned two All-America honors

Series history

The Cardinals and Wildcats will meet for the 20th time in series history. Last season Kentucky took a 2-0 victory in the Battle for the Bluegrass. Kentucky leads the overall series 13-5-1, and have won five straight games against Louisville. The last in 2010 at Card Park.

Kentucky often looks to comes out aggressive to get on the board first (well, everyone is, I guess)… But the Cats can convert on opportunity. Let the crowd factor into the equation and Louisville can remain two steps ahead. Stop the cats in the first half, control the clock and win the game. Louisville is too talented to fall in 2016 in the battle of the bluegrass.

Sophomore defender, Gabrielle Vincent, leads the Cardinals with seven points. Vincent scored a career-high three goals to lead the Cardinals to a 4-0 win over the Blazers on Friday.  Was named the NSCAA Division I College Player of the Week  and the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30.

Freshman forward, Marissa Bosco. Bosco leads the Cats in points with four and assists with two.
