Perfect Game released their preseason Top 25 poll as well as their preseason All-American lists today, and without much surprise the Louisville Cardinals felt the love on both ends. The Cards landed at the #8 spot in Perfect Game’s preseason poll, while first baseman Logan Wyatt & LHP Nick Bennett were listed as Perfect Game preseason All-Americans.
Louisville’s placement of #8 marks the second time so far this preseason that they have landed in the top 10, after having been ranked #9 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. This extends their streak of having received a preseason national ranking to 12 straight seasons, a school record.
Logan Wyatt was listed as a Second-Team selection, while Nick Bennett was listed as a Third-Team selection. Both of the newly christened captains are no strangers to receiving their rightfully earned recognition. Just earlier this month, Wyatt was named a preseason Second-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, as well as Third-Team All-American by the same publication. Bennett was named to the Freshman All-American First-Team in 2017 by NCBWA, and was a member of the All-ACC Second-Team last season.
Bennett & Wyatt and the rest of the #8 Louisville Cardinals will kick off the 2019 season in Lakeland, FL against the UConn Huskies on February 15th for a 3 game series. The home opener is set for February 20th at 3pm against Eastern Kentucky.
