University of Louisville defensive end Sheldon Rankins has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2016 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

The game announced the first group of players to accept invitations to the 67th game, set to be played January 30 at Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium and the contest will be nationally-televised by the NFL Network.

Rankins, a third-team All-ACC selection last season, has started 10 games at defensive end as the Cardinals are once again one of the top 15 defenses in the country. A native of Covington, Ga., Rankins ranks fifth on the team in tackles with 44 and is second on the squad with 5.5 sacks.

After leading the team in tackles for loss last season, Rankins is fourth on the team with 10.5 this season and owns one of the team’s defensive touchdowns this season when he returned a fumble 46 yards for a score in a 17-14 win over Boston College. He totaled a career-best eight tackles in losses to nationally ranked foes Houston and Clemson.

The 6-foot-2, 305 pounder has been credited with 115 total tackles in his career and moved into the school’s top 10 list for career sacks with one in last week’s win over Virginia.

Rankins is the 32nd player to be selected to participate in the Senior Bowl and the first since former teammate Lorenzo Mauldin took part in the game last season.
