Bobby Petrino announced on the ACC Teleconference that Reggie Bonnafon will make his second straight start against Syracuse in place of Will Gardner. However, he didn’t rule out that Will Gardner playing if needed.

“There’s a chance he’ll be available. Reggie [Bonnafon] will start the game,” Petrino explained. “Will [Gardner] was out there last night more in practice. Reports from training room we’re that there was limited swelling. So we get a chance to get him out at practice again today.”

Will Gardner participated in a limited practice this week both Tuesday and Wednesday. Gardner’s injury appeared to be the result of a hit against Florida International, when the Sophomore left the game in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury. He missed the entire game against Wake Forest and now will miss at least starting against Syracuse.

This allows Reggie Bonnafon a second game to get comfortable. It’ll also be a new experience, as it will be the first time the Freshman has played on the road in a College Football game. On the season, Bonnafon has thrown one touchdown pass and passed for 357 yards. In his first career college football start he completed 16 of 32 passes for 206 yards, he also rushed for 46 yards in the 20-10 win over Wake Forest.

My personal opinion? This is another virtual try out game for Bonnafon. A good performance here could have him grabbing the starting position for good, regardless the status of Will Gardner.
