The Cards travel to Miami Saturday to face the Hurricanes. Miami’s is an interesting team that has some stat irregularities. This is a team that can not run the ball and gets sacked a TON, but the Canes do have a really outstanding defense that carries the U.
What’s strange about Miami is despite their offensive efficiency the Canes get into the REDZONE at a high rate…… they just haven’t done a lot with those chances. Also with its fantastic defensive numbers the Canes actually aren’t a very good 3rd down defense.
Offensively Miami is LAST in 3rd down conversion. A big part of that is how often Miami gives up TFLs. But their defense carries the day and turnover opportunities give this team a chance to win a lot of games.
The computers love Miami despite some head-scratching results. Miami owns wins over Bethune-Cookman, Central Michigan, Virginia, Pitt and Florida State. The Canes’ losses are to Georgia Tech, Florida, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. There is no excuse for this Miami team to lose to Georgia Tech and the Central Michigan 17-12 score raised plenty of eyebrows but Miami was able to beat CMU. This Miami team under 1st year head coach Manny Diaz has a ton of potential and they are playing well defensively, but the inconsistency on offense really holds this group back.
