Late last night following the conclusion of the final training camp game against CPL Select, the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team announced their final 24 man roster where Louisville sophomore left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers made the cut. He was one of four Cardinals to get the invitation to training camp (Binelas, Kirian, Miller) and the roster move comes just ahead of today’s game 1 matchup vs. Cuba. In his one training camp appearance, Detmers tossed a pair of strikeouts and surrendered 4 hits and no runs in 3.0 innings pitched.

Starting off their international tour, Detmers and the rest of the CNT will kick off a 5 game series that pits the Collegiate National Team against Cuba from July 2nd to July 6th, with each game taking place at a different location in North Carolina. They will cross international borders after the Cuba series, taking on Chinese Taipei from July 9th to July 12th at Taiching City Stadium in Taiching, Taiwan. Finally, they will conclude their trip abroad with a 5 game series against Japan in the 43rd USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series taking place from July 16th to July 22nd.

The sophomore southpaw out of Chatham, IL put together one of the best pitching season in program history. He set the UofL single season strikeout record with 167, breaking the old record of 146 set by Brendan McKay in 2017. He also tied the single season wins record of 13, sharing it with Kyle Funkhouser in 2014. Racking up the accolades from a stellar season, he was the 2019 ACC Pitcher of the Year, a Golden Spikes Award & Dick Howser Award Semifinalist, and was a near-consensus First-Team All-American.
