Dayna Overton, an outside linebacker/defensive end out of Jeffersonville, Indiana has announced his commitment to Louisville as a preferred walk-on. At 6’4″, 235lbs Overton has the size and speed to be a versatile part of the Louisville defense. Despite playing defensive end this summer during the “Light Up The Ville” camp, the Louisville coaches feel like he projects best at outside linebacker.

“UofL has been my dream for quite some time, so this is a very special opportunity for me” Overton said regarding his decision. “[The] biggest thing for me was the coaches and the whole atmosphere. Every time I came for games, the coaches always made me and my family feel welcomed and that they seriously cared about me, not only as a player but as a person also. I never saw hospitality like that anywhere else, seriously.”

One coach though, in particular, really stood out for Overton and was a big reason why the senior who plays for Jeffersonvile ended up chosing the Cards despite scholarship offers from smaller schools. “I love my relationship with him (Coach Bobby Petrino), every time I talk to him he makes me feel comfortable and very welcomed. His demand for excellence and attention to detail were a match for my work ethic. That was a big part of my decision to play football there.” Overton said.

Even though Overton is not rated by any of the main recruiting services, it’s important to understand that this is a luxury for Louisville. Not only do you have someone who is incredibly motivated and has a lot of pride in the school already, but he possesses the tools to be successful on the football field. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple years if we are hearing his name called quite a bit.
