The transfer portal officially opened today and the Cards (like everyone in the country) saw a contingent of SIX players enter the portal.

  • Popeye Williams
  • Victoine Brown
  • Marquis Groves-Killebrew
  • Jackson Hamilton
  • Josh Minkins
  • Izaiah Reed

Josh Minkins (Safety) is the most veteran of the players who entered the portal. Minkins, the son of former Cardinal Josh Minkins Sr and former Ballard Bruin, was a starter at the beginning of the season before an injury forced him to the sideline. Josh stated on X that he came back early from injury and it affected his play. Minkins also started all 13 games during the 2022 season.

Jackson Hamilton (Linebacker) appeared in 12 games for the Cards and had 11 tackles. It looked like Jackson was going to have a more prominent role during the Spring Game, but the Linebacker tandem of TJ Quinn and Jaylin Alderman limited opportunities for Hamilton.

Popeye Williams (EDGE) was a major 4-star recruit in the 2022 class but only appeared in 2 games in 2023. College Football with the transfer portal is an OLDER GAME now and I’m sure that Popeye will be a force in his next stop as he continues to grow and play more football.

Victoine Brown (DL) has been with Louisville since the class of 2021. Brown redshirted in 2021 and didn’t see action in 2022 or 2023. Brown was a highly sought after player coming out of high school with a lot of high major offers.

Izaiah Reed (OL) redshirted last season as freshman and then didn’t see game action in 2023. Reed had options coming out of high school. This may again be a situation where college football is just an older sport. We might see Reed down the line making an impact.

Marquis Groves-Killebrew (CB) transferred last season from Texas A&M and was a 4-star recruit out of HS. Marquis didn’t appear in games in 2023.
