Louisville won a nailbiter in the Yum! Center today when they overcame a deficit to beat Pittsburgh, 76-69.
The Cards were off to a rough start in the first half, shooting just 25.9% and accumulating 10 turnovers, 4 of which belonged to Hailey Van Lith and 4 from Olivia Cochran. They found just 1 point off 12 Pittsburgh turnovers in the first two quarters as well. We did, however, see good play from Louisville’s sweetheart, Norika Konno. She was able to contribute 5 points in the first half, including a three-pointer. Chrisyln Carr was the first half leading scorer with 7 points.
Hailey Van Lith started to find her shot in the third quarter when she had back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 38. Louisville would take a two-point lead after Morgan Jones made a couple of free throws. Josie Williams also made some noise with a three-pointer of her own in the third. The team was feeling it from the arc. By the end of the third quarter the team was 5-7 and Hailey was a perfect 3-3. The Cards turned up the heat for the remainder of the game and had a season-high 13 made three-pointers for the day, and were shooting 56.3% for the half.
Three players saw double-digit scoring. Hailey Van Lith tallied 18 points while Chrisyln Carr and Norika Konna had 16 and 11, respectively. Olivia Cochran led the team in rebounding with 9 and Morgan Jones wasn’t far behind with 8. Hailey Van Lith also led the team in assists with 7.
Louisville travels to Blacksburg this Thursday to play #9 Virginia Tech at 7pm.
