The No. 24 Louisville Cardinals have been selected as the 6 seed in Regional 2 in Albany.
After going 24-9 overall and 12-6 in the ACC, the Cardinals had a season that left many of us wondering how far they would make it in the post-season. A battle and win over Boston College in their first game of the ACC tournament left us with more questions than answers heading into a Friday game against Notre Dame, which they ultimately lost.
Now Jeff Walz and Company are headed to Baton Rouge and will face 11 seeded Middle Tennessee State University on either Friday or Saturday. Should they win their first-round game, they’ll face the winner of LSU and Rice on Sunday or Monday.
A second-round matchup against LSU and Louisville IN Baton Rouge? The Cards against Hailey Van Lith on her new home court? Jeff Walz vs. The Devil? We knew it was coming. We all knew the script as soon as they didn’t take the opportunity to schedule the same matchup during the ACC/SEC challenge. However, don’t skip ahead to that. Let us not forget what MTSU did to Louisville last season. Let us not forget the 67-49 ass kicking they handed us in Murfreesboro before sending us back home. This is a strong program and by no means should be overlooked. After all, crazier things have happened in March.
Regardless of defensive struggles through the season and storylines the NCAA wants to write, I still believe this is a Louisville team that can make a deep run in March. I still believe they have time for the right things to click for them at just the right time. I still believe in Jeff Walz to lead this group to multiple post-season wins and shock the people who continue to doubt his product on the court.
