The 18th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team took a 14-10 loss Saturday in the middle game of the weekend series against Cal at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Louisville (19-7, 4-4 ACC) powered its way to 10 runs for the 11th time this season, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

The Cardinals surrendered a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, but the offense was up to the task early.

Lucas Moore led off the bottom half of the first with his first career home run, and the Cardinals put a six spot on the board in the second.

Tague Davis went the opposite way for a two-run shot, his first of two on the day, to start the scoring in the second. Eddie King Jr. scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at four, and Zion Rose gave the Cardinals their first lead with a two-run double inside the first base bag.

Garret Pike tacked on the seventh run with a sacrifice fly and Bayram Hot added a sac fly of his own in the third to give the Cards an 8-4 advantage.

A wind-aided three-run homer got Cal (15-11, 6-5) back within one in the fourth, however Rose hit a solo homer in the bottom half and Davis added his second of the day in the fifth to make it a 10-7 contest.

It was all Cal from there though. The Bears scored once in the sixth before taking the lead with four runs in the seventh. They then added two more in the ninth for the final margin.

After scoring 10 times in the first five innings, the Louisville offense was held off the scoreboard over the final four frames.

Davis drove in three with the two home runs in his first multi-homer game. The freshman now leads the Cardinals with 10 long balls on the year.

Louisville and Cal finish off the weekend at noon ET on Sunday. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
