In news that surprises no one, today the Atlantic Coast Conference announced that left-hander Reid Detmers has been awarded with ACC Pitcher of the Week honors. Detmers is the first Louisville Cardinal to win player of the week honors in 2019.
Looking at his stat line from his Friday start in game 1 against Brown, it’s not hard to see why Detmers is this week’s ACC Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore from Chatham, Illinois tossed a career high 11 strikeouts over a career high 7.0 innings pitched, and allowed no hits. He was 1 allowed walk away from a perfect outing. Friday’s series opener against Brown was almost a complete game no-hitter, until Brown broke through with a base hit with two outs left in the ninth. Over his two starts this season, he carries an ERA of 0.75 and a WHIP of .67 with 14 strikeouts while only allowing 4 walks.
Barring from a change in the rotation, Detmers is scheduled to make his next start this Friday at 4pm in game 1 of the home series against James Madison. The #8 Louisville Cardinals (5-2) will be back in action tomorrow at 3pm against the Xavier Musketeers (1-5) down at Jim Patterson Stadium. Admission for this game is free.
