The No. 15 Louisville Cardinals are now the lone undefeated team in the ACC after their 83-62 win over Wake Forest.
Although the Cards never trailed in this game, there were moments where things looked a little sloppy. I think that is something we may continue to see from this team at times, due to their quick gameplay. Sure, I could spend time harping on the number of turnovers they had today, (16) but I really think the good outweighs the bad in this matchup.
It seemed like the roster contributed evenly across the board today as Louisville had six players in double-digit scoring against Wake, led by Olivia Cochran and Jayda Curry who had 12 points, respectively. Everyone was scoring, everyone was rebounding, and everyone was doing their part with assists and defensive efforts.
Leading the pack in rebounding were Merissah Russell and Alexia Mobley, who had 5 each. It felt like a breath of fresh air to see Alexia get extended minutes. I can feel it in my soul that we will see a breakout game from her sometime soon.
By the second half, Louisville had really run away with the lead and saw one of the best moves I’ve seen in the Yum! Center in the last five years. As president of the Jayda Curry fan club, I was more than thrilled when she got a steal and hit a buzzer beater three-pointer from the half court area. Want to watch it on repeat with me? See the replay below.
Overall, I was pleased with the Cards’ performance today. It’s hard to be upset about a 21-point win over a conference opponent. That doesn’t mean there aren’t things to clean up prior to upcoming battles in the ACC. I trust Jeff Walz to have this team ready for the challenges they’ll face the entire month of February.
Until then, Louisville goes out on the road to face Clemson this Thursday, January 18th. They’ll tip-off at 7p.m. and you can watch the stream on ACCNx.
