After starting the season 5-4 the Cards are now on a 6-game winning streak and 2-0 in the ACC.

It was a battle under the basket and Louisville had to tap into a level of physicality that wasn’t seen early on this year. They fought hard and won the rebounding battle 47-31, with 31 of those boards coming on the defensive end. Coach Walz played a larger lineup for a nice chunk of this game which is a lot of the reason we saw the team get 40 points in the paint tonight.

Nyla Harris found herself two points away from a double-double (8 points, 10 rebounds) and she made herself a big problem for Syracuse, who could never really find a way to stop her. It was another big night for Hailey Van Lith. She tallied 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists to further cement her legacy as one of the best to ever wear a Louisville jersey.

Things weren’t quiet for out bigs either. Olivia Cochran and Morgan Jones scored 15 points and 7 rebounds apiece before Jones was helped off the court late in the fourth quarter with what we’re all hoping was the worst cramp in history. Chrislyn Carr also found herself in double-digit scoring with 12 points after going 4-9 from the three-point line.

The Cards 86-77 victory over Syracuse showed us a team that was ready to head into the new year with a focus and a willingness to leave it all on the court. They seemed to have settled into their roles and are ready to take on the remainder of a very tough ACC schedule.

They’ll travel to Durham, NC this Sunday to face off against Duke at noon before coming back home next Thursday to host Georgia Tech. You can watch the game this Sunday on RSN or tune into 93.9 The Ville for the game and the women’s basketball post-game show hosted by Dave Scull and myself.
