In September 2017 the College Basketball world was rocked by the FBI and Southern District of New York’s investigation into bribery, money laundering & wire fraud in college basketball. Louisville is still crawling out of the aftermath in its role during the sudden and surprising recruitment of Brian Bowen.

Today, the LA Times released a LENGTHY report that details how FBI Lead Case Agent Scott Carpenter and an unnamed undercover agent used government money to drink to intoxication at a poolside cabana in Las Vegas and gamble away at least $13,500 of government money that was intended to be used in the bribery scandal.

10 coaches were arrested. Lots of people’s lives were upended as the result of the FBI investigation into college basketball. Anthony Bland (USC) plead guilty to bribery, Chuck Person (Auburn) plead guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery, Book Richardson (Arizona) plead guilty to bribery, Lamont Evans (Oklahoma State) plead guilty to bribery and also faced deportation. James Gatto (adidas), Christian Dawkins (runner), Merl Code (adidas) also all faced penalties.

The FBI’s Scott Carpenter received a misdemeanor.

An HBO documentary “The Scheme” detailed the 2017 investigation and fallout from the Christian Dawkins perspective. Merl Code wrote a book “The Black Market” last year.
