The University of Louisville baseball team closed out the regular season with a 14-6 victory over Notre Dame on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville finishes the regular season at 32-22 overall and 16-14 in conference play.
Eddie King Jr. continued his ridiculous weekend at the plate, homering two more times and driving in three on Friday. King concluded the three-game series 6-for-10 with five home runs and eight RBIs.
Louisville used the long ball to take control Friday, hitting four solo homers between the second and third innings. Isaac Humphrey and King went back-to-back in the second before Ryan McCoy went the opposite way to make it 3-0.
One inning later, Dylan Hoy added an opposite field home run to stretch the lead to four.
Alex Alicea and JT Benson picked up RBIs in the fourth and King launched his second homer of the night, a two-run shot, in the fifth to give the Cardinals a commanding 8-0 lead.
Notre Dame (27-25, 9-21 ACC) climbed back into the game with five runs in the top of the sixth, however the Cardinals answered right back in the bottom half.
A bases loaded walk forced home the first run and Zion Rose singled into left to plate two more. Gavin Kilen then tallied the fourth run of the inning with a fielder’s choice to push the margin back out to seven.
Kilen capped off Louisville’s offensive showing in the eight with a two-run double, giving him 22 two-baggers for the season.
Colton Hartman (1-2) earned his first collegiate win on Friday, pitching five shutout innings with seven strikeouts.
Five different Cardinals recorded multiple hits with King and Kilen driving in three apiece.
Louisville now sets it sights on the ACC Championship, which begins on Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C. The four pools will be announced on Saturday evening with the game schedule coming out on Sunday.
