It was a busy morning of news nuggets this morning. Rather than creating a series of individual posts, I’d thought we’d do some quick hitters today.

Reggie Bonnafon Will Not Travel to FIU

Reggie Bonnafon’s father suddenly passed away on Monday and is tending to his family.  Bonnafon has also not hit the practice field since his family tragedy.  The game against Florida International should not require his services but may have been another live-action learning opportunity……I think we can all agree that Reggie taking this bereavement is more important than any game.  Prayers to the Bonnafon family.

DeVante Parker Ahead of Schedule

Bobby Petrino also noted that DeVante Parker was able to “get out of his boot and into shoes” much faster than originally expected on the ACC Teleconference on Wednesday.  Petrino stressed that his team is getting better in explosion plays in practice, but noted that it has been difficult without one of the best receivers in the nation.

Petrino also noted that he was unsure of the timeline and said that the bone still needs to fully heal.  Parker’s original diagnosis was out 6-8 weeks.  It has been 3 weeks and 2 days since Parker’s surgery, who is working on conditioning in an AlterG device.

Louisville’s game vs. Syracuse is scheduled for 10/3 and would be 5 weeks and 4 days after his surgery.  We’ll continue to monitor the situation.

Jameis Winston Suspended for 1 st Half vs. Clemson

Staying with football, huge news in a BIG ACC Atlantic Division game came this morning when Florida State decided to suspend its Heisman Trophy winner Quarterback Jameis Winston for screaming lewd comments while mimicking a popular internet meme on campus Monday.

Winston has had a robust display of questionable decision-making during his tenure at Florida State.  Rape allegations, theft of soda from a fast-food restaurant, theft of crab legs from a Publix, and now screaming lewd obscenities on campus.

It’s been a tough run for Heisman Trophy winners lately.   But the news is huge in Louisville’s division in the ACC Atlantic.  The Cards start ACC Atlantic play on 9/27 vs. Wake Forest.  The winner of the division plays in the ACC Championship game in Charlotte.

Louisville No Longer Recruiting Antonio Blakeney

Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal reported that Louisville will no longer recruit Antonio Blakeney. The news comes as no surprise after the 5-star recruit abruptly decommitted just 11 days following his commitment at the beginning of this month.  Blakeney is scheduled to visit and consider all NIKE schools.
