In search of another class of talented prospects, Coach Rick Pitino extended a scholarship Friday to Alpharetta, GA guard Alex O’Connell. How impressed was Coach Pitino with the 6’5″ shooting guard? He offered him after the first game he saw.

“It’s great. I’m very interested.” O’Connell said of the offer. “[Pitino] said he needs a scoring wing and I would fit perfectly.” Holding offers from schools such as Clemson, Georgia, Xavier, Iowa State, and Auburn (according to 247Sports), O’Connell is dynamic scorer capable of getting to the rim, as well as being an excellent mid-range and three point shooter. On the Nike EYBL circuit this year O’Connell averaged 14.1 points per game in 16 games.

So what were some things he likes about Louisville? “Style of play, relationship with staff, [being a] basketball school, education.”

With Louisville trying to secure some commitments sooner rather than later, when is O’Connell planning to make a decision by? “Decide in August hopefully”. With a decision upcoming O’Connell said he plans to make a visit to Louisville in the near future.
