The Cardinals couldn’t overcome 2 first half goals by NC State to win on Friday night. The Cardinals’ best scoring chance in the first half came in the 12th minute. Cherif Dieye sent a clean pass to Emil Elveroth who connected with the back of the net, but was ruled offside.

NC State took the lead in the 40th minute on a breakwaway goal by Iverson Brisma. The Wolfpack then doubled their lead with 45 seconds to go in the first half when Tyler Gabarra sent a shot into the upper left corner of the far post.

The Cards out-shot the Wolfpack 8-2 in the second half and cut their deficit in half in the 84th minute. A long pass from William Hirschman down the right side found Dieye, who sent a cross to Elveroth in the box. Elveroth then deposited the ball from the center of the box past Wolfpack goalkeeper. UofL had a final chance to score the equalizer as the NC State keeper barely got a hand on Elijah Amo’s shot with 1:43 to play in the game.

For the second straight week the University of Louisville men’s soccer team is ranked in the top-25 of the United Soccer Coaches poll that was announced Tuesday (Oct. 1), coming in at #24. The Cardinals are coming off a 1-1 week, where they defeated then 2nd ranked Georgetown 1-0 in double overtime last Tuesday.

NC State now sits three spots outside the top-25. The Cardinals fall to 4-2-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in ACC action. The Wolfpack improve to 5-2-1 and 2-1 in conference play.
