My Prediction

The Cards stormed back from a big deficit to make it a ballgame in Cameron Indoor Stadium 12 days before Saturday’s match-up.  A series of errors and mental mistakes caused the Cards to come up just short of a road win.  But this Duke team will be without Guard Matt Jones who did a fantastic job guarding Damion Lee in the 1st meeting.  Jones will miss the game with an ankle injury and will still be without Forward Amile Jefferson.

As such the Blue Devils will come to Louisville with just 6 players who average significant minutes leaving Mike Kryzewski with the difficult decision to attempt to play a deep Louisville team with just 6 players OR to go deeper into a very shallow Duke bench and play less experienced players.

In this game the Cards will have the home court and are fresh off a ‘feel good performance’ vs. Syracuse.  The last meeting was 3 days after the post-season ban was announced, UofL has had time to reflect and refocus and get back to the business of basketball.  Without Matt Jones’ defensive presence Damion Lee probably has a better shooting night, but the depth issue will really play a role….particularly in rebounding.

Also don’t forget that Grayson Allen was charged with a Flagrant 1 foul for tripping Ray Spalding in Durham.

I think Louisville has it going on to win this game.  Duke has won 5 games in a row including the last 2 by one point each.  The Blue Devils certainly know how to win tight ball games but this will be the first time with even more limited bodies for Coach K and the Cards have their mojo back.

Louisville 76, Duke 68
