University of Louisville catcher and KCD product Will Smith was selected #32 in the 1st round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Will Smith was on the Johnny Bench Award watch list for college baseball’s best catcher and leads UofL in Batting Average .380 and on base percentage .476. Will also has an incredibly low strikeout ratio.
The Cardinal catcher is probably the biggest mover in the final month leading up the 2016 MLB Draft. Will Smith has done a great deal to improve his stock over the last month or so and has proven himself to be a major weapon for Louisville, but also a very viable option as an elite professional catcher.
Corey Ray was selected with the #5 pick & Zach Burdi was selected #26 earlier in the draft, making tonight an historic night for Louisville Baseball. Other Louisville Cardinals are expected to be selected tonight & in subsequent days of the Major League Baseball draft. We’ll keep you up to date with those selections as they happen.
