Back at home for a 4 game series… the Cards tack on another victory in the win column. 10 & 0 on the season. Vanderbilt another victim of the commanding Cardinals, the team is off to the second best start in program history.
The Cards came out shooting, Asia Durr landing a three pointer in 49 consecutive games, they didn’t give up the first points until the 8:18 mark and held the Commodores to it until the leading ‘Dore, Rachel Bell would land her second shot of the night at the 7:06 mark. The Cards would score 10 in as much time. The Cards wouldn’t score a basket from the 7:36 mark again until the 4:56 mark and then again 1:55. Bell would go on to score the first 12 of 14 for Vandy. Free throws to the rescue to keep it close in the final minutes of the first quarter for Louisville. The Cards finished making 19-22 at the line.
A late spurt by the Commodores would keep it from a 30 point victory for Louisville and half of the starters would re-enter but that’d be all for Vandy, who scored only 9 and then 4 in the 2nd and 3rd quarter.
Asia Durr finished 7 of 11 shooting, 9-10 at the free throw line and 4 steals. I’d say a mild night for senior, Myisha Hines-Allen, who had 9 points, 10 total rebounds and 4 steals. She did reach her average defensive bounds, with 7, which is best in the conference.
Anchored by junior Sam Fuehring underneath, who did not start in Tuesday’s matchup with UT Martin (19 minutes off the bench), played 27 minutes of solid offense and defensive ball. Sam recalled after the game how much she’s changed from sophomore to junior season Vanderbilt matchups… mostly mentally. She was 4-5, 6-6 from the free throw line for 14 points, had 4 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals.
Next up: The Cards will face their 3rd foe from Tennessee of this home-stand on Saturday Night at 7PM at the KFC Yum Center and then Tuesday vs Tennessee St. The next time they go on the road it’ll be to Lexington for the annual rivalry game. See the team before they go! They wont be back until January for conference play.
