The University of Louisville has relieved Athletic Director Tom Jurich of his duties on Wednesday. Tom Jurich came to Louisville on October 21, 1997 and oversaw a transformation of athletics and facilities at the University.
Tom Jurich found his end at the University admist a FBI sealed complaint that was a Bombshell into the recruiting world of college basketball. Several assistant basksetball coaches, financial advisors and the global marketing director at adidas were arrested on Tuesday morning. And while University of Louisville coaches were not arrested they were directly implicated in the report.
Louisville’s involvement was a pay-for-play scheme where adidas executives and Louisville coaches were caught on tape discussing payment for Louisville signee Brian Bowen.
Rick Pitino & Tom Jurich were able to survive a previous scandal involving Katina Powell & Andre McGee which put the program on probabtion. The FBI probe had Louisville assistant coaches say to adidas executives that any involvement in a pay-for-play scheme for Brian Bowen would have to be discrete due to the program being ‘on probation’.
Louisville now has to replace its Basketball staff & its athletic director. Practice begins on Friday.
