3 days ago Illinois fired Football Coach Bill Cubit on the same day that new athletic director Josh Whitman began working for the Illini.
Yesterday Whitman hired Lovie Smith who has coached the last 11 years in the NFL, most recently the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Today, Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel reported that Illinois and Lovie Smith are targeting Louisville Offensive Coordinator Garrick McGee to become the Illini Offensive Coordinator & Quarterback coach. Thamel reports that Coach McGee is Lovie Smith’s top target.
Last season McGee turned down Oklahoma, his alma mater, to be the Sooner Offensive Coordinator.
We will update this story when we know more information.
