Russ Smith
Russ Smith is set to make an unprecedented impact on the Louisville Basketball Record Book in 2013-14. Last Year Russ scored the 2nd most points in a single season, made & attempted the most free throws in a single season, hit the 10th most field goals in one year, and logged the 8th most steals in a single season (also has second most in 2011-12). It was obvious that when Russ Smith decided to return to school that the record book was in trouble…despite Russ’ freshman year when he played just 96 minutes.
Let’s take a look at what impact Russ Smith has made on the record book, there will be additions to this as the season goes on because Russ is on the cusp of a lot of lists so be sure to check back with us as they occur:
-Currently 27th All-Time in Career Scoring with 1356 points. Russ needs just 7 points to pass Edgar Sosa for #26 All-Time. Russ is averaging 20.17 ppg and has a potential of a minimum of 27 games remaining and a maximum of 34, Russ at his current average can range anywhere from 4th to 5th All-Time in Career Scoring. It really well be difficult for Smith to crack the Top 3 and any reduction in his average or missed games will affect his climb greatly.
-Russ is tied for 9th All-Time in Career Steals with 191. His junior & season seasons were the 2nd & 8th most takeaways in a single season by a Cardinal, and Russ has an opportunity to become the first Cardinal ever to have 3 seasons crack the Top 12 in Single Season Steals. If Russ continues his rate from the previous two seasons he will break Peyton Siva’s Career Steal Record that Peyton set last season.
