The University of Louisville men’s basketball team will travel to Lexington to face in-state rival Kentucky on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Tip time and TV designation for the game have yet to be determined.

The Cardinals trail in the all-time series 17-39. The teams have met every season since 1983 except for 2021-22, when the matchup was canceled due to COVID-related issues. Prior to 1983, the teams had not met in regular season play for 62 years.

Both UofL head coach Pat Kelsey and UK head coach Mark Pope are entering their first season as head coach at their respective schools. The 2024-25 season marks the first time both programs have new head coaches during the same season since 1930-31. The matchup will be the first time since 1915-16 that the UofL-UK series has featured new head coaches at both schools.

Louisville is now guaranteed to play three SEC opponents in its non-conference slate. The Cardinals host Tennessee on Nov. 9 and Ole Miss on Dec. 3, the latter as a part of the 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge. UofL has the potential to play a fourth SEC opponent in Oklahoma in the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Cards are currently 93-82 against the 2024-25 SEC membership.
