Louisville landed two Safeties in the portal on Monday: Baylor’s Devin Neal and Arkansas’ Myles Slusher.

Fans may remember Devin Neal (5’11, 201 lbs) as he hails from Lexington’s Frederick Douglass HS. Neal played for Baylor for 3 seasons since joining the Bears in the 2020 class and has 2 years of eligibility remaining. Devin also had a Cincinnati offer out of HS. This year Neal played in all 11 games for Baylor and had 41 tackles, 3 TFLs, 1 sack and 2 INTs. Neal also played in last year’s Sugar Bowl victory for Baylor.

Myles Slusher (6’0, 194) played in 6 games in 2022 and dealt with a few injuries (upper body & calf) at various points during the season. Myles was outraged at Arkansas Head Coach Sam Pittman when Pittman said that Slusher had ‘quit’ the team on 11/25. Myles was the #172 overall player in the 2020 class choosing the Razorbacks over Alabama, Nebraska, Baylor, Georgia, UCLA, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, etc. In 2021 Slusher played in 11 games and had 50 tackles, 3 TFls, 2 INTs and 4 PBUs.

Both Neal and Slusher are major pick-ups in an already solid safety backfield with MJ Griffin, Josh Minkins, D’Angelo Hutchinson, Antonio Watts, and Jeremiah Caldwell.

Unfortunately Louisville did lose punter Mark Vassett and OLB Allen Smith to the portal on Monday as well. Vassett with a terrific punter for Louisville over the past two seasons and held the best average for the Cards since 2017. Allen Smith played in 9 games as a sophomore and registered a tackle.
