Louisville Pitcher Nick Burdi was the 1st Cardinal Selected in the 2014 MLB Draft that began on Thursday night when the Minnesota Twins organizatioin selcted Burdi with the #46 pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft’s 2nd round. The selection comes on the eve of the Cards starting their Super Regional match-up with Kennesaw State.
Burdi leaves Louisville with a host of awards & honors. Currently Louisville has won 99 games in a row when leading after 8 innings thanks to the junior who is known for his triple digit MPH closing performances. Burdi becomes the highest drafted player in Louisville Baseball history.
Nick boasts a 0.54 ERA on the season with 28 appearances and 16 saves. Through 33.1 innings Burdi has allowed just 15 hits and 2 earned runs, and has struck out 58 of 100 batters put away.
The Burdi was named Louisville Slugger 1st Team All-America this season & 1st Team All-American Conference (AAC) for the 2014 season. Last year Burdi was named 2013 First Team Perfect Game All-America, 2013 Second Team NCBWA All-America, and 2013 First Team All-BIG EAST.
