The Cards hosted No. 11 North Carolina today and fought hard for a 62-55 victory over the Tarheels.
Louisville and North Carolina played a physical game of basketball and yes, there were a lot of missed calls but at this point we expect that. The Cards found themselves trailing by one point at the half time break and you can attribute that to a few missed layups and 12 first half turnovers, to which the Tarheels stacked up as many points as Louisville had turnovers. Hailey Van Lith had a tough stretch in the second quarter when she began to miss a few shots and then found herself with two back-to-back turnovers. Aside from the turnovers, there were players missing layups and overall, the offensive efforts were lacking at times.
A very chaotic third quarter was held together by Chrislyn Carr sinking 3 three-pointers and Louisville finding 13 points off 6 Tarheel turnovers. The Cards were able to hold onto their lead through the fourth quarter and secure a 7-point win over #11 UNC. Hailey Van Lith and Chrislyn Carr led the team in scoring today with 17 points each while Nyla Harris saw a total of 12 rebounds. Morgan Jones and Mykasa Robinson weren’t too far behind Nyla with 8 boards each.
As a team, the Cards racked up 22 turnovers, which has been a consistent problem throughout this season. They were also 6-12 on layups, and 16-24 at the free-throw line.
Louisville is back on the road this Thursday and will face Virginia at 7p.m. on ACCNx. You can also listen to the game on 93.9 The Ville.
