Louisville Athletic Director Vince Tyra is the leading candidate for Florida State’s open Athletic Director position.

Tyra was named interim Athletic Director at UofL in the wake of the Southern District of New York’s investigation into college basketball when then interim president Greg Postel fired then Athletic Director Tom Jurich and Rick Pitino in September of 2017.

Vince Tyra was elevated to the permanent AD role at UofL in March of 2018.

Word first broke on Friday, 84 minutes after a WDRB report wherein Vince Tyra reiterated support to retain Louisville Football coach Scott Satterfield, when Pete Thamel tweeted that Tyra was a surprised candidate in the running for the FSU job.

On Saturday, University of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi expressed support for Vince and his decision to retain Satterfield.

The University of Louisville Board of Trustees is set to meet tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. to discuss a ‘personnel matter’.

Could UofL be working on a new contract for Tyra? Or might the meeting be to determine an interim Athletics Director (Josh Heird) with Tyra’s departure imminent? We’ll have to see.

Earlier this year Louisville Basketball coach Chris Mack was suspended for 6 games in the wake of the ‘Dino Gaudio Extortion scandal’ for ‘HR Violations’. As has been understood since August, Mack went along with that decision from the President’s office, but did not make the suspension decision on his own.

Vince Tyra’s father is Louisville Hall of Famer Charlie Tyra whose jersey hangs in the rafters. Vince has business interests throughout the region and previously served of the UofL Foundation Board.
