No. 18 Louisville travelled to MTSU and took a 67-49 loss on Sunday.

If we thought the Ohio State loss was embarrassing, this one is sending us all into hiding for the foreseeable future.  Prior to this year we were aware that this team would take time to gel. What we weren’t expecting was watching the wheels fall off in multiple games.

The Cards were 18-65 from the field. That stat alone is a hard pill to swallow when this team was averaging 77 points per game prior to today. The Cards had only 9 bench points through all four quarters, all of which came in the second half. They were also 5-11 on layups and only saw 16 points in the paint.

Surprisingly there was some good to take away from this game. While Hailey Van Lith walked away with another double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds), Olivia Cochran had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Olivia played the first half with purpose and dominance, having half of the team’s total points at the end of the first quarter. If you’ve been paying any attention over the last few years, you know the potential that Olivia has, and it is refreshing to see her finally thrive this season.

Someone we did not see on the floor or even on the bench tonight was guard Payton Verhulst. In news that broke Saturday evening, we learned that Verhulst has entered the transfer portal. She will be a loss to this team and one who will have success wherever she lands.

Louisville will be back home in the Yum! Center this Tuesday night to host SIUE at 7pm before taking a trip to Lexington on December 11th to face rival Kentucky.
