University of Louisville Athletics has entered in a strategic partnership with Goodwood Brewing Co., the department announced on Thursday, marking the next chapter in its branded craft beer initiative. This new agreement follows a former collaboration with Gravely Brewing Co., which introduced the University’s first officially licensed beer.

Starting this fall, fans will be introduced to Goodwood’s 1798 — a refreshing blonde ale with light fruit notes and a crisp, mildly hopped finish and a bold toast to Cardinal pride and a nod to the University’s founding roots. The beer will be available at Louisville Cardinals athletic venues and retail outlets across the region, offering a fresh flavor profile that continues to celebrate the pride and tradition of Cardinal Athletics.

“We are fortunate to have exceptional craft breweries here in Louisville,” Josh Heird, Vice President and Director of Athletics at UofL said. “As we look to grow and evolve this partnership, Goodwood stood out as an ideal collaborator, with strong local roots, broad distribution capabilities, and a shared commitment to the Louisville community.”

The new licensing and sponsorship agreement with Goodwood — a Louisville-based brewery recognized for its innovative barrel-aged beers — will enhance both the visibility and accessibility of the University’s branded brew.

In addition to its brewing operations, Goodwood has expanded its footprint with five full-service restaurant locations, including its newest venue on Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville — a perfect gathering spot for Card Nation before tipoff.

“Goodwood is thrilled and honored to partner with the University of Louisville to produce 1798 blonde ale,” Ted Mitzlaff, Goodwood CEO said.  “Headquartered in Louisville, we have deep ties to the University.  Pride and care will go into every batch of 1798, and each purchase will support student-athletes.  Fans can support U of L by stocking their refrigerators with this fantastic product.”

1798 will debut ahead of the 2025 football season and be available at L&N Stadium, select retailers, and Goodwood locations throughout the region.

Additional details on availability will be announced at a later date.
