Louisville’s Jeff Gardner was selected Friday in the Major League Baseball 2014 Draft by the Washington Nationals in the 8th Round with the 244th selection.

“The Mayor” has been a steady bat in the line-up for the Louisville Cardinals and was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Player of the Year.  Gardner is currently batting .326 with an on base % of .403.  Gardner as appeared in all 61 games for Louisville in 2014 and currently boasts 67 RBIs.

Gardner was selected just hours before Friday night’s Super Regional vs. Kennesaw State at Jim Patterson Stadium.  With a win, the Cards will advance to Omaha to compete in the College World Series for the 2nd consecutive season and just the 3rd time ever.  Gardner was recently named 2nd Team Louisville Slugger All-American and has also been previously named 2013 Louisville Regional All-Tournament Team, 2013 First Team All-BIG EAST, BIG EAST Player of the Week (5/20/13 & 4/22/13), 2013 Team Captain, 2012 Second Team All-BIG EAST, and 2011 All-BIG EAST Tournament Team.
