Officials from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc. today announced that Louisville’s head football coach Jeff Brohm has been selected as The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Presented by PNC Bank.
The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week award honors a football coach who led his team to a significant victory during the previous week, while also embodying the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity.
Brohm earned this week’s honor after guiding Louisville to a 24-21 upset win over No. 2 Miami on Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium. The victory marked Louisville’s first road win against an AP top-2 opponent in program history and matched the highest-ranked opponent the Cardinals have ever defeated. With the victory, Louisville improved to 5-1 on the season while snapping Miami’s 10-game winning streak.
Quarterback Miller Moss led the charge on offense, completing 23-of-37 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a rushing score. Wide receiver Chris Bell continued his stellar stretch, hauling in nine receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first Louisville player with three consecutive 100-yard receiving games since 2019. Running back Isaac Brown led the ground game with 113 rushing yards on 15 carries, marking his eighth career 100-yard performance and the first allowed by Miami this season.
The Cardinals’ defense was relentless, forcing four interceptions for the first time since 2022 and holding Miami to just 63 rushing yards, the sixth-lowest total by a ranked opponent in school history. Linebacker T.J. Capers sealed the victory with an interception in the final minute, while JoJo Evans Jr., Jabari Mack, and Antonio Watts each added a pick. Linebacker TJ Quinn led the team with six tackles, while Cooper Ranvier connected on a 48-yard field goal and remained perfect on extra points this season. Louisville also executed a successful fake field goal in the first half, which was the team’s first since 2019, to extend a drive that led to the Cardinals’ opening touchdown.
“Coach Brohm and the Cardinals showed tremendous grit and execution to pull off one of the biggest upsets so far this season,” said Chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation Jim Terry. “To go into Miami and take down the nation’s No. 2 team in such a dramatic fashion speaks volumes about his leadership and the belief he’s built within that locker room.”
Now in his third season at the helm of his alma mater, Brohm has continued to elevate Louisville into national prominence. Since being named head coach, he has guided the Cardinals to a 24-9 overall record, highlighted by four wins over top-25 opponents.
Off the field, Brohm emphasized academic accountability and community involvement as core principles of his program. Through this culture, Brohm’s program continues to excel, posting a 989 Academic Progress Rate and a 97 Graduation Success Rate last season, ranking the Cardinals among the best in the ACC.
In the community, through CardsCARE, Louisville student-athletes, coaches and staff volunteer their time and talents across the community, partnering with 193 nonprofit organizations last year, including the Girl Scouts, American Red Cross and American Heart Association, as well as the Metro Parks Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation. These efforts reflect Brohm’s belief that the impact of his program should extend well beyond football, helping to shape his players into service-minded leaders within the community.
“Coach Brohm continues to exemplify everything The Dodd Trophy stands for with his commitment to scholarship, leadership and integrity,” said Gary Stokan, Peach Bowl, Inc. CEO and president. “To deliver a huge conference road win over the nation’s No. 2 team reflects the culture of accountability and confidence he’s built at Louisville.”
The Dodd Trophy Presented by PNC Bank – along with the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Award – celebrates the head coach of a FBS team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary this season, the award was established to honor the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division 1A) head football coach whose program represents the highest ideals on and off the field.
A panel consisting of all previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential recipients at the conclusion of the 2025 season. The winner of the 2025 Dodd Trophy Presented by PNC Bank will be announced in Atlanta during the week of the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
