Howard Schnellenberger, 77, led Miami to the National Title in 1983, Louisville to a win in the Fiesta Bowl in 1991 and set the foundation for the Cardinal program. After a long and illustrious career “The Pipe” announced yesterday that he is stepping aside at Florida Atlantic (a program he started) after the 2011 season.
Today, the legend announced that he his having his hip replaced. The Bluegrass legend has his name honored at Commonwealth Stadium, the football complex at PJCS bears his name, and he has left a coaching legacy that very few coaches can claim. Let’s wish Coach Schnellenberger well in his retirement and a get well soon after his surgery.
