University of Louisville Sophomore safety Gerod Holliman and senior outside linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin were named first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)Wednesday in a vote by the ACC head coaches.
In the media vote released last week, Holliman was the lone first-team selection for the Cardinakls.
Senior offensive tackle Jamon Brown and senior wide receiver DeVante Parker were named to the second team, while junior defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and senior tight end Gerald Christian were voted to the third team. Senior offensive guard John Miller and junior cornerback Charles Gaines were named honorable mention.
Holliman, who was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski and Jim Thorpe Awards, broke the ACC record and tied the NCAA record for interceptions in a season (14) when he picked off Kentucky’s Patrick Towles on the last throw of the game. Holliman recorded interceptions in nine games and had multiple picks in four games, including a career-best three interceptions versus Boston College.
Mauldin, who was a second-team selection last week by the media, finished with a career-best 45 tackles, and ranks in the top-60 nationally in sacks and tackles for loss. Mauldin is second on the team with 6.5 sacks and leads the team with 13.0 tackles for loss.
Parker was a third-team selection by the media last week, moved up to the second team in a vote by the coaches. Despite playing only three conference games and just five games on the season, Parker was second on the team with 35 receptions for 735 yards and five touchdowns. He registered four 100-yard games, including a career-high 214 yards in a loss to No. 2 Florida State. Parker tied the school record for career receiving touchdowns with 33 when he tallied three in the 44-40 win over Kentucky on Saturday.
Brown, who was also a second-team all-league honoree by the media, has started 31-straight games at tackle and logged 40 career starts since taking over the tackle position in 2011.
Rankins was also a third-team selection by the media. He had his best season on the defensive line, recording a career-high 48 tackles. He led the team with 7.0 sacks and was second on the squad with 12.5 tackles for loss.
Christian, who wasn’t selected by the media, earned all-conference accolades after finishing fourth on the Cardinals with a career-high 30 receptions for 359 yards and four touchdowns.
Miller was selected honorable mention after starting all 12 games. Smith has made 50 career starts at guard and center, while Miller has started 31-straight games at guard.
A first team all-conference selection last season and a third-team All-ACC honoree by the media, Gaines recorded 32 tackles and registered a pair of interceptions, while totaling a team-high nine pass break-ups.
No. 20 Louisville will face No. 13 Georgia in the 13th Annual Belk Bowl on Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN. It will be the first meeting between these two schools.
