LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after matching a career best with five touchdown passes in the team’s season opening 49-7 victory over Ohio.

The junior recorded four touchdown passes in the first half. It was the most touchdown passes in a half in school history since Dave Ragone tossed four scores in the opening half against East Carolina in 2002. Bridgewater’s final touchdown pass in the first half pushed him past Jay Gruden (1985-88; 44) for fourth all-time on the school’s career passing touchdowns list. Bridgewater has 45 career touchdown passes.

Despite not playing a full game, Bridgewater finished with 355 yards, his seventh career 300-yard passing game. For his career, the Miami, Fla., native has compiled 6,202 yards in the air to move ahead of Stefan Lefors (2001-04; 5,847) into fifth place on the school’s career chart.

Senior Preston Brown also garnered league accolades, earning a spot on the weekly honor roll. The linebacker recorded a game-high nine tackles and helped limit Ohio’s offense to just 81 yards on the ground. The Bobcats ran just 59 plays, managing just 13 first downs and having to punt on six occasions.

No. 9 Louisville (1-0) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 7, against Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is set for noon, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
