The University of Louisville football program has enjoyed a long history and will celebrate its 100th season in 2018.
Thursday is just the start of the year-long celebration, which also marks 100 days before the Cardinals open the season against defending national champion Alabama on Sept. 1 in the Camping World Kickoff game in Orlando, Fla. The nationally televised game will kick off at 8 p.m. on ABC.
A special logo has been designed to commemorate the 100 seasons of UofL football, which has appeared in 22 bowl games and won 512 games during its storied history.
While the first official season began in 1912, the Cardinals’ history includes a brief hiatus from 1917-20 and also from 1943-46.
Throughout the course of the season, the department will unveil a number of special promotions to highlight the monumental occasion.
Fans will have the opportunity to vote on Louisville’s All-Century Team, as the biggest names in Cardinals’ program history will be highlighted in a position-by-position series.
Based on the results, the team will be revealed on social media leading up to the first home game – Sept. 8 game versus Indiana State – and a commemorative poster that will be given to fans at the home opener that reveals the final fan vote.
