The University of Louisville football team was picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Poll in a vote by media members who were credentialed for last week’s kickoff event in Charlotte.
The Cards received 2,370 points, while Clemson was projected to win the league with 3,083 points. The Tigers received 167 first-place votes, while Miami earned seven to be slated to finish second in the league race. SMU and Georgia Tech were recipients of a pair of first-place votes to be slated to finish third and fourth, respectively.
The Cards return nine starters from last season’s team who finished 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the league.
Louisville opens the season on Aug. 30 when it hosts Eastern Kentucky for a 3 p.m. on the ACC Network.
