Reid Detmers has certainly made a name for himself during his time as a Louisville Cardinal. With comparisons to the great Brendan McKay, Reid was full steam ahead going into the MLB draft. In a recent press conference, Dan McDonnell stated, “You don’t want to play poker with these two guys.”, while also noting that Detmers didn’t crumble under the pressure of the comparisons. This evening, surrounded by family and friends in the Omaha Room, he saw his hard work pay off when the Angels drafted the LHP at #10 overall.

Through his career at Louisville Reid stacked up a list of accolades including numerous All-American awards, ACC Pitcher of the year (2019), All-ACC First Team (2019), Golden Spikes Semifinalist (2019), and numerous other noteworthy honors. During the summer of 2019, Reid was also pitching for the USA Collegiate National Team.

Before being cut short this season, Reid was 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA and a monster 48 strikeouts through 22 innings. His consistency took him a long way on the mound and a long way up the draft board. After totaling 284 strikeouts in his career at Louisville, Detmers is the third highest drafter player in Louisville history behind Brendan McKay and Corey Ray. While we may have seen the last of Reid in a Louisville uniform, it certainly won’t be the last of him we see in the game of baseball. Congratulations Reid!
