Louisville junior righthander Zack Burdi was named Monday as the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week. North Carolina’s Zac Gallen shared the honor with Burdi, while Wake Forest’s Stuart Fairchild was chosen as Player of the Week.

Burdi earned three saves while lighting up the radar gun in three dominant relief appearances last week for the Cardinals. The Downers Grove, Illinois, native finished with nine strikeouts without surrendering a hit or a walk in 4.1 innings of shutout work against a trio of nationally ranked foes. Burdi, who has nine saves and 42 strikeouts in 24.0 innings pitched this season, opened the week with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings at No. 7 Vanderbilt, where he registered 101 mph on the Hawkins Field scoreboard. He followed that by striking out three in back-to-back outings against No. 10 NC State while also touching triple digits on the official Patterson Stadium radar gun during each outing. In his three relief appearances last week, Burdi delivered 11 fastballs at 100 mph or higher and 10 more at 99 mph.

The honor was the first for Burdi and marked the fourth time this season a Louisville player has earned an ACC weekly award. Corey Ray has been tabbed as the ACC Player of the Week twice this season on Feb. 22 and March 28, while Brendan McKay was named as ACC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 29.

Up next, No. 4 Louisville concludes its 2016 home slate at Jim Patterson Stadium with a visit from No. 27 Indiana on Tuesday at 6 p.m., ET and admission is free.
