UofL QB Will Gardner will transfer from the school and seek a new program to play for the 2016 season.  Will’s mother, Lin, posted on Facebook that Bobby Petrino granted Gardner’s release and that he is seeking a new school.  Will’s father, Glenn, confirmed the news to Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal.

Will is set to graduate from UofL this December and will be immediately eligible to play at his new program.

Gardner was Louisville’s starter during the 2014 season until an injury sidelined him after a knee injury suffered vs. Florida International.  Will returned to action and nearly led the Cards to a comeback victory in the 4th quarter vs. Clemson.  Will eventually suffered a season-ending knee injury (on the same knee that was injured vs. FIU) vs. Boston College in an non-contact incident.

Will has had multiple knee injuries and subsequent surgeries since his senior year of high school, including corrective surgery on the same knee before tearing it again.

Will looked good at the start of Fall Camp this August and many (including me) thought he could factor into the race to start.  Will has yet to see action in 2015 and has been behind Reggie Bonnafon, Kyle Bolin, and Lamar Jackson.  Additionally UofL has commitments from Jawon Pass and Tylin Oden at the QB position.

We wish Will Gardner nothing but the very best.
