Just days after the 6’2″ point guard from Forest Hills, NY decommitted from the UNLV Rebels, Louisville basketball Coach Rick Pitino was on the phone with Christian Vital extending an offer to join the 2016-2017 UofL basketball team. Vital said that Pitino “wants a high character to come in and be apart of the Cardinal family”. This phone call came shortly after the mutual parting of ways between Frankie Hughes and the University of Louisville.

Christian Vital has received interest from UConn, Cincinnati, Dayton, Providence, Iowa, West Virginia, Alabama, Marquette, Butler, Louisville, and Tulsa. So what does Coach Pitino like about Vital’s game? “My competitiveness, my approach to the game, my shooting ability, and ability to guard and play either guard spot”. Vital also added that as long as he was on the court it did not matter which spot he played. As far as what interests him about UofL, Vital stated “Legendary coach, history, culture, (and) opportunity.”

While he does not have a particular timetable for a decision, Christian Vital realizes that he doesn’t have a lot of time to make a decision. With Louisville returning just one true point guard next year in Quentin Snider, Christian Vital would be a great addition to the team.

We will continue to update his recruitment as we get more information.
