The most speculated rumor has now come to life as Louisville’s 2013 inspiration, Kevin Ware, announced on Saturday to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman that he would transfer from the University of Louisville.  Ware will leave the University of Louisville with 66 games played, 1 start, 774 minutes, 73 of 175 (41.7%) from the field, 85 rebounds, 43 assists, 49 steals, and 202 points.

Ware rose to national prominence after breaking his leg during the Midwest Regional Final vs. Duke at Lucas Oil Stadium. The injury and his reaction spawned National Attention from across the globe and Ware appeared on countless talks shows, took multiple phone calls & letters from people of note, and was the most recognizable face of Louisville’s 2013 National Championship run.

It all looked to be a storybook ending when Ware came back and entered play in Louisville’s 1st exhibition of the 2013-14 season versus Pikeville, just 220 days after breaking his leg catastrophically.

Ware then played sparingly while continuing to recover until his leg was inadvertently kicked versus Missouri State.  Ware’s leg needed X-rays and it was determined to sit Kevin and apply for a medical redshirt.  I spoke to Kevin prior to a Louisville basketball game in February and he told me that he had an upcoming X-ray that would hopefully clear him to begin practice again.

Ware went through some lay-up lines during weekday home games until around mid-February and was attending study hall, but was not attending team meetings and practices.  Ware originally committed to Bruce Pearl at Tennessee and Pearl’s recent hire at Auburn has early speculation that Kevin may end up an Auburn Tiger.
