UofL issued its Request for Proposal on June 2nd for contractors to bid to the construction for the North End Zone Expansion of Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.  The entirety of the RFP can be read here.

What is notable are the dates that UofL has requested the construction schedule for the project:

End of 2016 Football Season 11/26/2016 (Governor’s Cup)
Construction 11/28/2016 – 8/6/2018
Construction Complete 8/6/2018.

The RFP also suggests Louisville’s home football schedule for 2017 will be between 9/9/2017 – 11/18/2017. Louisville is slated to open the 2017 season versus Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The Request for Proposal is a good indicator of how well fundraising has gone with Mark Jurich and his development team. According to the RFP UofL will announce a short list of contractor for the project with Interviews taking place the week of July 11th and a final awarding of the project announced on July 15th.

Within the RFP it has been requested that the contractors work with minimal impact to the football program, but it’s clear that the 2017 season, including Spring Practice would be impacted by the construction in and around the facility. Additionally the 2018 Spring Practice & Summer workout sessions would also take place for UofL Football during the construction.

The project would be complete by the opening of training camp on 8/6/2018. Louisville Football is slated to open the 2018 season in Orlando, FL vs. Alabama and would open the NEW Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on 9/8/2016 vs. Indiana State.

The 2019 season is expected to begin vs. Notre Dame at PJCS on September 2, 2019 (Labor Day).
