LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville head men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino is slated to be featured on the second in a series of three commemorative Maker’s Mark bottles benefitting the Academic Center of Excellence, the school announced Wednesday.

The second of three bottles will honor the accomplishments of Pitino, who will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in September, and guided the Cardinals to their third NCAA national title with a 74-68 win over Michigan, the school’s first championship since 1986.

The bottle is the second of a three-year commitment by Maker’s Mark, which has pledged over $500,000 in support of UofL’s Academic Center of Excellence. A total of 12,600 bottles (for those over the age of 21) will be available to the public, and details on how to purchase the bottle will be announced at a later date.

The Academic Center of Excellence will be located beneath the Norton Terrace at the South end of the Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The center will house the academic operations for the entire athletic department and all student-athletes and academic staff will be located in one building. The center will feature tutorial areas, laboratories, office areas and classroom space. Fundraising is just getting underway for the facility.

The iconic bourbon maker issued its first bottle last season, honoring Louisville’s football head coach Charlie Strong, and the bottle was a huge success, selling over 8,400 in record time.
