Louisville secured a commitment from Arkansas cornerback Tre Norwood Friday morning, the 17th commitment in the class. Norwood, a 5’11” 175lb player with a 4.48 40 yard dash, discussed his decision to join the Cards recruiting class.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Coach Petrino since he was at Arkansas, and Coach Grantham [is] a great defensive coach that plays a pro style defense which benefits [me].” Norwood said. “Everything about the school is nice, I fell in love with it on my visit.”

So what about Petrino does Norwood like so much? “Just how great of a coach and person he is” Norwood said, “He made me feel like I was home when I was up there. And he’s a winning coach.”

With Norwood being the 6th defensive back recruit in the class, the Northside High School standout talked about what he brings to the table and makes him stand out “They say I have good hips, and good feet, and they like my man to man skills. And being able to play the ball in the air.” Norwood said via message.  “They talked about how I’d have a chance to come in competing for early playing time”.

As for Louisville’s plan going forward in recruiting defensive backs, Norwood said that he may not be the last to join the class “They said they were taking 1 more and maybe 2”.

**Note: I would speculate that these 2 positions would be held for highly rated prospects such as Russ Yeast and CJ Avery.

Norwood is rated a 3* and the 126th ranked cornerback in the 2017 class according to 247Sports. He had offers from schools such as Memphis, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Air Force, MTSU and Arkansas State.

Evaluation:

Standing 5’11”, Norwood is a tad bit smaller than Louisville’s recent defensive back commitments but what he does have is the ability to lock a man down 1 on 1. Norwood’s straightline speed is good, claiming a 4.48 40 yard dash, but from watching the film, his ability to change direction and cut is even better. This unique quickness enables him to stay in front of his man no matter what and will allow him to be placed on an “island”.
