ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reported this morning that Louisville’s season opener in the Chick-fil-a Kickoff Classic vs. Auburn in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome will kick off on September 5th at 3:30 and will be televised by CBS.

Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist will be in the booth for CBS.  Louisville has not played on CBS National (they’ve played on some regional CBS Networks) since 1997 when the Cards had 3 games on the National network:  9/13 vs. Illinois, 9/20 vs. Penn State, and 11/1 vs. East Carolina in what was the final game ever played in Cardinal Stadium at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center before moving to Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Louisville was so bad in 1997 (1-10 during Ron Cooper’s last season) that CBS didn’t decide to air another Cardinal game for 117 years.
